De eerste winnaars van de UK Americana Awards zijn bekend gemaakt,
Dat zijn niet de minsten, al blijkt direct dat UK Americana het genre niet erg streng begrenst, want aan Candi Staton is de International Lifetime Achievement Award toegekend, terwijl Lyle Lovett de International Trailblazer Award krijgt.
Als ze op 23 januari naar het Londense Hackney Church zouden komen, kunnen e horen welke andere genomineerden zijn gekozen, bijvoorbeeld Gillian Welch & David Rawlings, Waxahatchee, Bonny Light Horseman, Brown Horse, Katherine Priddy, Jason Isbell, Kacey Musgraves en Hurray For The Riff Raff.
Tot mijn plezier is ook de bluesy rootszangeres Elles Bailey in twee categorieën genomineerd, terwijl ook haar gitarist Joe Wilkins genomineerd werd. Hij zit al tien jaar in haar band en schrijft ook met enige regelmaat mee aan haar nummers.
Ik herontdekte haar muziek recent pas na de release van haar vierde studioalbum Beneath the Neon Glow, maar bleek veel gemist te hebben:
