Jethro Tull herdenkt het vijftigjarig bestaan met een boxset van drie cd’s, die heel toepasselijk ’50 for 50’ gaat heten. Die komt uit op 25 mei.
Ian Anderson, oprichter, zanger, fluitist en ziel van de groep, heeft de selectie van vijftig songs gedaan uit de 21 studioalbums die de band maakte.
Hij zette ze in een soort vrije chronologische volgorde om de verschillende stadia te laten horen die Jethro Tull doormaakte.
Dus staan er vroege, door blues geïnspireerde songs op (‘Beggars farm’), maar ook rocksongs (“Locomotive breath’), prog songs (’Skating away’) en folknummers (‘Songs from the wood’).
Voor wie vijftig nummers iets te veel is, verschijnt tegelijkertijd ‘50th anniversary hits’, een album met slechts vijftien songs.
Als je dan ook weet dat Jethro Tull net begonnen is aan een wereldtournee met Anderson als enige oorspronkelijk lid, ben je bijna helemaal bij.
