Neil Young brengt op 8 juli as. zijn met Crazy Horse in 2000 opgenomen album ‘Toast’ uit.
Dan verschijnen de zeven tracks op cd, lp en bij de meeste muziekstreamers.
Young vernoemde het naar de Toast-studio’s in San Francisco, waar hij het met ijn band opnam.
Toen het af was, besloot hij het niet uit te brengen, doordat hij er ontevreden over was. Dat is bij Neil Young zo vaak het geval geweest, dat dat gegeven nauwelijks nieuws is.
Zelfschreef hij erover: ‘I was not happy with it, or maybe I was just generally unhappy. It was a very desolate album, very sad and unanswered.’
Op ‘Are You Passionate’, het album dat hij daarna opnam met Frank ‘Poncho’ Sampedro en Booker T & the MGs, kwam een aantal songs terecht die hij ook al opnam voor ‘Toast’: ‘Quit’, ‘How Ya Doin’? ’, al heette dat op dat album ‘Mr Disappointment’, en ‘Boom Boom Boom’, dat omgedoopt werd tot ‘She’s A Healer’.
Verleden jaar schreef Young over het album: ‘ ‘Toast’ is an album that stand on its own in my collection. Unlike any other, ‘Toast’ was so sad that I couldn’t put it out. I just skipped it and went on to do another album in its place. I couldn’t handle it at that time. 2001.’

‘The music of ‘Toast’ is about a relationship. There is a time in many relationships that go bad, a time long before the breakup, where it dawns on one of the people, maybe both, that’s it’s over. This was that time.’
