‘Bursting Out’, het eerste livealbum van de Engelse progfolkgroep Jethro Tull, komt op 21 juni uit in een uitgebreidere vorm dan het origineel.

Het wordt een drie cd’s en drie dvd’s tellende box die met een knipoog ‘The Inflated Edition’ gaat heten.

De extra nummers komen natuurlijk ook uit de tournee die het album ‘Heavy Horses’ ondersteunde, maar er zit ook een compleet optreden bij dat de groep deed in de New Yorkse Madison Square Garden van iets meer dan anderhalf uur, waarvan 50 minuten beeld: die show werd destijds live uitgezonden door zowel BBC en Radio 1. Het was daarmee het eerste trans-Atlantisch  uitgezonden rockconcert.

Het album werd opgenomen op een achtsporenbandrecorder tijdens verschillende concerten van de tournee, hoewel veel van de nummers stammen uit het concert in het Zwitserse Bern waar Claude Nobs ook de introductie deed aan het begin van het optreden. Nobs was de oprichter van het Montreux Jazz Festival en de directeur Zwitserland voor platenlabel WEA.

Hoewel de groep tijdens het optreden in het Madison Square Garden werd gehinderd doordat bassist John Glascock te ziek was om op  te treden, noemt voorman Ian Anderson het een klassiek Jethro Tull-concert: ‘A scary experience for the band as it was, we were told, the first time a live rock concert had been the subject of a live satellite broadcast. The band lineup at this time was a fine-tuned machine and, although missing the unwell John Glascock for the MSG show, it serves as a fine testimony for the many wonderful shows we did in the ’70s before general touring fatigue and burn-out began a year or so later. Enjoy vintage Tull at its ’70s best.’
