Singer-songwriter Ray LaMontagne heeft zijn nieuwe album aangekondigd.
‘Long Way Home’ wordt zijn negende en komt uit op 16 augustus as. Dat gebeurt via zijn net opgerichte eigen label Liula Records.
Het album werd geproduceerd door Seth Kauffman en The Secret Sisters zingen koortjes op drie nummers.
In een persbericht schrijft LaMontagne dat hij in zijn jeugd Townes Van Zandt zag optreden.
Uit diens ‘To Live is to Fly‘ bleef diens tekstregel hem bij: ‘When where you been is good and gone/ All you keep is the getting there.’
Daarover schrijft LaMontagne: ‘Thirty years later it occurs to me that every song on Long Way Home is in one way or another honoring the journey,: the languorous days of youth and innocence, the countless battles of adulthood, some won, more often lost. It’s been a long hard road, and I wouldn’t change a minute. It took me nine songs to express what Townes managed to say in one line. I guess I still got a lot to learn.’
Opener ‘Step Into Your Power’ is het eerste nummer dat uitkwam, vergezeld van een animatiefilmpje dat LaMontagne maakte met zijn zoon Tobias:
